Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL)

The Faculty of Business and Economics is one of the 13 Faculties at the Catholic University of Leuven. An important asset of the Faculty is the vast national and international network both in offering education programs and research. Many of the alumni work at European institutions and many members of the faculty staff give advice to various European institutions, including the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Central Bank. KU Leuven has successfully participated in other FP7 projects under the supervision of Paul de Grauwe.

Main tasks in the project

KU Leuven will be the leader for WP5 and be a major contributor to WP3 and WP11.

  • Vivien Lewis is assistant professor at the Center for Economic Studies at KU Leuven.


  • Frank Smets is Director General of the Directorate General Research of the European Central Bank. He is professor of international economics at the Center for Economic Studies at KU Leuven and an honorary professor in the Duisenberg chair at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen. He is a Research Fellow of the CEPR and CESifo in Munich.
  • Raf Wouters is head of the modelling division of the National Bank of Belgium and professor at KU Leuven.
